April Working Bee

Our garden was abuzz with the hum of Autumnal activity last Saturday morning. We were joined by some keen and very industrious new members including Nimita, Rachel, Sandy, Sean and Larry. Welcome aboard guys.

Tracey and Kati lead the way with some seedling planting which we plan to nurture and then give away to members of the local community to introduce them to the joys of gardening and our garden more specifically. We're now hand-raising rosemary, nasturtiums, kale, parsley and lettuce between the members hopefully with the plants being ready to give away to our neighbours in May.

Cassie got busy de-snailing, cleaning, composting, cutting back the fallow and planting ground-cover between the pavers.

New member Rachel was very industrious getting into some planting (broccoli) and clearing her new bed. Whilst her garden bed mates plucked a fabulous looking sweet potato out of the ground. Proof that while the wait was long (planted in December) the wait was worth it!
Check out that baby!

Kati was also seen planting Kale and Broadbeans to join the recently planted Kumera.

As always we were fed by the very talented Twig team (big thumbs up to the fruit punch.

And finally in sad news (for us), Janet Verden and her family leave the neighbourhood soon. They're off on a big adventure to live in Holland. We wish them all the best and thank Janet for all her hard work over the past few years. Her contribution was critical in getting the garden up and running and her commitment along the way has helped keep it growing. Have fun in Amsterdam and please send a postcard!
